Silvia Roman

THEATER DIRECTOR - INSPIRING YOUTH

Romanian theater director with a diverse background in the visual arts, she debuted at the National Theatre in Bucharest with "Fetita Soldat" (The Soldier Girl), a play that has captivated audiences for over 7 years. Her directorial work extends beyond state theaters nationwide, featuring at various national festivals and in independent productions. In recent years, she has immersed herself in the study of participatory arts, engaging in international collaborations, artistic residencies, workshops, and thought-provoking art installations. The majority of her projects emphasize visual and participatory elements, often aiming to redefine the dynamic between actor and spectator.

Three years ago, Silvia relocated from Bucharest to establish the Sub Stejar Cultural Association. In her role as president and cultural manager, she champions the performing arts among young people in the Maramureș community. Through her association, she has spearheaded cultural-educational initiatives, reaching thousands of spectators in Țara Lăpușului, her childhood home.

Her educational productions in recent years have had a documentary and social character, addressing real issues in the communities targeted as a result of the theater development workshops and creative and research laboratories she leads. She is constantly seeking new ideas, collaborators, and explorers from the artistic field to learn, build, and push her own boundaries.
